Trust Test (Part 2)

As we begin this 21 days of fasting and prayer, I just want to send you an encouraging note. As you fast and pray, don't worry if things don't go perfectly as planned. When things don't go as desired, turn your attention back toward God. Talk with him. Let him know how you're feeling, what you're struggling with, and keep moving forward. On the other hand, some of you may find that you have a profound spiritual high that you have never had before.  God may move and speak into your life in ways you have never seen or heard in that past. That will be awesome!

However, some of you may find that you don't have a strong feeling or spiritual high. That's OK, too! Our goal is not a feeling, but faithfulness. Sometimes we "feel" very close to God, and sometimes we don't. Our feelings are not the gauge of how close we are to God or how much he is working in and through our lives. Feelings are nice, but they come and go. Our relationship with God is based in faith not feelings, as well as the fact that God is Creator and that He Jesus rose from the dead.

Having said all of this, I believe BCC is in a season where God is going to move and do some profound work in our lives and in this church. I don't know what all God has in store, but when his people pause to fast, pray and listen, I trust that God will hear and respond. I also believe we are open to spiritual attack when we make a concerted effort to focus our attention on God. So don't be surprised if you feel distracted at times, or trials seem to come out of nowhere. You may find that Satan tries to trip you up in ways like never before. But rather than being discouraged, let it be an encouragement to you! It means that something significant is happening in your spiritual life, and the evil one is not happy about it.

As we pray for our personal concerns through this month, let's keep each other held up in prayer, as well. As Paul says in Ephesians 6, just after explaining the armor of God for our spiritual battles, he reminds believers of this:

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

We are in this together!
